Lag Ba'Omer, Then and Now


April 30th, 1918: Hundreds of ultra-orthodox school children walk from Jerusalem to the tomb of Shimon Hatzadik to celebrate the Lag Ba'Omer holiday. The photo's caption reads: "Jewish children and adults, one holding a Star of David banner, walking south on Nablus Road towards the grave of Shimon Hatzadik (Simon the Just). Jerusalem." 

May 9th, 2012: Fifth Grade students of the Paula Ben Gurion school in Jerusalem share their favorite parts of celebrating the Lag Ba'Omer holiday. At the top of the list: roasting marshmellows!
